A punch card stamped in August rarely turns up again in April. This one stays on your customers' phones while the freezer case is dark, stamps and all, and lets you write to them the day the tubs fill back up.

Mostly, you need a card that survives September to April. If customers come back season after season, a card on their phone keeps their stamps through the closure and lets you announce the reopening: StampyWallet does this in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, no app, from €20 excl. VAT a month in Europe ($29 in the US) at October 22, 2026 prices, first month free. Scheduling the reopening message ahead of time takes the Growth plan (€40, $49). If you only sell to one summer's passersby, a paper punch card will cost you less.
StampyWallet is a digital loyalty card for independent merchants, ice cream shops included. Customers scan the QR code taped by the dipping cabinet and the card lands in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, with no app and no sign-up. You stamp each cone from your phone, several at once for a family; over the winter, the card waits on their phone with its stamps.
Three cones, one scanA family of three pays together: you pick "3 stamps at once" before pointing at the card.
Winter costs nothingStamps stay on the card through the closure, and your time off doesn't turn anyone into a lapsed customer.
Reopening, announcedA message on every customer's lock screen the morning you open again.
The reward
A scoop, a cone, a pint to go: the reward gets eaten, and it costs you far less than its menu price. Three setups to choose from; switch any time and your customers' cards follow.
The easiest to read at the counter, even for a kid. A family of three moves up three boxes in one go.
The first gift lands within the season; the second goes home in the freezer, so your ice cream keeps getting eaten while the shop is closed.
For example, a scoop at 40 points and a quart to go at 100. Someone taking two quarts to a birthday party moves faster than someone grabbing a sorbet.
Say what the free scoop covers ("one scoop, cone or cup, any flavor"): toppings are easier to settle up front.
At the dipping cabinet
When the line wraps around the block, nobody has time to dig for a punch card. The parent holds out a phone to pay, you set the number of stamps, point, and on to the next.

1The Wallet opens at checkoutInès keeps the Sorbetto card right next to her bank card. Your phone reads the QR, no terminal or tablet needed.
2Three cones, three stampsThe scanner shows "3 stamps at once" and the count going from six to nine. One tap to confirm.
3Nine out of ten, already in her pocketHer card updates and her lock screen says so: the next scoop is the free one.
The number before the scanType 3 (or the receipt total, if you count per dollar) before pointing. Up to 50 stamps at once, and the screen tells you before anything is added.
Or by first nameSticky hands, the customer's phone at the bottom of a bag? "Find a customer" pulls up the card by first name or phone number.
Boardwalk signalWhen cell service jams on the boardwalk, the stamp waits on your phone and goes through as soon as the signal is back, never twice.
Winter
Most loyalty cards assume a shop that's open year-round. Here you enter your closure once and the card goes quiet with you: stamps stay, rewards stay, and nobody is counted as absent while you're closed.
Your closures, one lineIn Settings, "Add holidays" from November 1 to February 28. Those days don't count toward a customer's absence, so in March your regulars haven't turned into lapsed customers.
Stamps that don't meltStamps on a card don't expire. A customer at seven out of ten in October is still at seven in the spring, and her card shows it all winter.
Rewards with no deadlineSet "Rewards expire" to "Never": the scoop earned on the last weekend of September is still waiting at reopening. The other choices run from one month to a year.

Reopening
Neighbors, Sunday families, last summer's visitors who kept the card: they all have your shop on their phone. The reopening message reaches their lock screen on the day and at the hour you picked.
To everyone, from Essential upA message to all your customers is part of every plan. One message a day at most, so save it for the date that matters.
Written in January, sent in MarchOn Growth, the message can be scheduled up to two months ahead, between 7am and 10pm, on your shop's time. Until then, you can edit or cancel it.
When a customer walks byYour address places the shop on the card: close by, the phone can bring the card up on its own. On iPhone if the customer left "Suggest on Lock Screen" on, on Android if notifications and precise location are allowed for Google Wallet. The phone makes the call.
The gift card
A gift card for an amount, to tuck into a birthday card or give at the end of the school year: it goes out by text or email with a note, sits in the recipient's Wallet and gets spent cone by cone, balance updated each time. On the Growth plan.

Questions
Eight to ten, so a neighborhood regular reaches the reward within the season. Count one stamp per cone or cup, and add several at once when a family pays together. If tickets vary a lot (pints, ice cream cakes), one point per dollar is fairer.
They stay on the card, on the customer's phone: stamps don't expire. Rewards already earned don't either, if you set "Rewards expire" to "Never". Your subscription keeps running; you can stop it and the card keeps working, but you lose the dashboard and messages until you resume.
Not if you enter your time off under "Your closures": a customer's absence is counted in open days, so the winter doesn't add to it. Automatic win-back (Growth plan) then follows each customer's own rhythm, or your delay, which you set from 14 to 90 days.
With a message to all your customers, available from the Essential plan: it shows on the lock screen of everyone who has the card. On Growth you can write it up to two months early and schedule it for that morning, between 7am and 10pm. Send it to "Everyone" rather than "Away 90+ days": after the winter, that's nearly everybody.
It costs them nothing and costs you nothing extra, since customers are unlimited. Those who come back next summer find their stamps and get your reopening message. And as long as "When a customer walks by" stays on (it is by default), their phone can bring the card up when they're near the shop again, depending on their phone's settings.
At October 22, 2026 prices: Essential is €20 a month excl. VAT in Europe ($29 before tax in the US, £19 in the UK), with the card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, scanning, unlimited customers and the message to everyone. Growth is €40 ($49, £35) for scheduled and targeted messages, automatic win-backs, gift cards, birthdays and Google review requests. The first month is free and you can cancel whenever, at closing time for instance.
Five minutes for the logo, the reward and the sign to tape by the tubs. Summer customers add it while they wait for their cone.
