Climbing and bouldering gyms

A climbing gym loyalty card, from first visit to project.

Updated

Climbers do not come back for a price. They come back for the problem they have not sent yet, the Tuesday crew, the wall that just got reset. The card tracks their visits in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, keeps their 10-entry pack beside it, and tells them when the holds change.

What loyalty card works for a bouldering gym?

One that fits your three kinds of climbers. A bouldering gym sells day passes, 10-entry punch cards and memberships, and each climber comes back for a different reason: new problems, the Tuesday crew, the season. If your ticketing software already runs punch cards and messages your climbers, keep it. Otherwise, as of October 22, 2026, StampyWallet puts a stamp card, the 10-entry pack and the reset-day message in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, from $29 a month in the US (€20 excl. VAT in Europe); packs and scheduled messages are on Growth, $49 (€40), with a 30-day free trial.

StampyWallet is a digital loyalty card for independent businesses, bouldering and rope gyms included. Climbers add it to their phone from the front desk QR code, no app; staff scan it at check-in. The prepaid punch card lives next to it in the same Wallet and comes off with a scan. Payment stays at your register.

Before the chalkClimbers open their Wallet while paying, before touching the first hold. No app, no password.

The pack in their pocketTen prepaid entries, deducted with a scan, instead of a paper punch card crumpled in a bag.

The reward

What climbers actually want.

A free entry, sure, but also the things that cost the gym little and matter to beginners: shoe rental, a chalk bag, an hour with a route setter. Three setups to adapt to your rates.

Ten visits, the tenth free

One stamp per entry, whatever the rate. Simple for the weekend climber who does not want a pack.

Shoes at visit 3, entry at visit 10

Two tiers: free rental lands early, right when a beginner wonders whether to buy shoes. The free entry keeps the ones who stayed.

A point per dollar, peak or off-peak

If entry costs, say, $22 in the evening and $16 at lunch, enter the amount before scanning: 40 points for shoe rental, 150 for an entry.

Say whether the free entry is valid at peak hours. And give rewards a long expiry: they should not run out while people climb outside.

At the front desk

One scan before the first hold.

The climber pays, grabs rental shoes and heads to the wall. The stamp happens right then, with the waiver and the wristband, no extra line.

  2. 2The desk confirms the visitFirst name, six of ten visits: one tap and it counts.

  3. The same card after the scan: 7 of 10 stamps

3She sees it while changingSeven of ten shows up on her lock screen as she laces her shoes.

One family, one cardKids do not always have phones. A parent shows their card and staff enter "3" before scanning: three stamps at once.

Phone left in the cubby"Find a customer" pulls up the climber by first name or phone number, and the visit counts.

The whole front desk teamEach staff member scans from their own phone, invited by link, with no access to your numbers.

Three climbers

Day pass, punch card, membership: a card for each.

The same wall has different customers. The once-a-month visitor, the one who bought ten entries at once, the one billed monthly: each keeps what matters to them in their Wallet.

The Dévers card: six of ten entries, the tenth free.

The drop-in climber

The stamp card is enough: one entry, one stamp, the tenth free. It is what turns an outing with friends into a habit.

The 10-entry pack

Paid at your register and created in two steps, it goes into the climber's Wallet. Each visit comes off with a scan, the pass shows what is left, and it gives a heads-up before it expires. On Growth.

The Le Pan card: twelve sessions, free shoe rental reached at visit 10, a coaching session at visit 30.

The monthly member

They pay nothing at the door, but they show up. Session tiers reward them: shoe rental at visit 10, an hour with a setter at visit 30.

The punch card and the loyalty card are two separate passes: taking an entry off the pack adds no stamp. Decide whether pack holders also earn stamps, and scan both if so.

Reset day

A wall reset, and everyone knows.

Stripping on Tuesday morning and opening that evening is the gym's best pitch: fresh problems to read. Write the message ahead of time and it goes out on its own when climbers get off work.

Written the night before, sent at 5You pick the day and time, in the gym's time zone. Until then, the message can be edited or canceled. On Growth.

One message a day, maxThe gym can push one message per day: climbers do not tune out, and reset day keeps its pull.

Once per resetA scheduled message goes out once. For each rotation, schedule the next one: two minutes on Monday night.

The season

Summer outside, fall back on plastic.

When the days get long, some climbers head to the crag. They have not left you: they will be back with the first rain. The card plans for it.

In June, lengthen the windowSet the win-back window to two months in Settings, so regulars off at the crag do not get a "we miss you" after ten days. On Growth.

In September, the 90-day groupThe "Away 90+ days" group gathers the whole summer. One message just for them: "Every section has been reset since June." On Growth.

A reward that waitsReward validity ranges from 30 days to a year, or no limit. An entry earned in May should still be good in October.

Gifting

A first session under the tree.

Sell an intro session with shoes, or an amount, at the desk. StampyWallet sends it by text or email with the buyer's note; the recipient adds it to their Wallet and comes in to climb. On Growth.

Gym questions

What bouldering gyms ask us.

What reward should a climbing gym loyalty card offer?

A free tenth entry is the clearest. For beginners, add an earlier tier with shoe rental. If your rates change by time of day, switch to points: a point per dollar, so the reward follows what the climber actually paid.

My climbers already have a 10-entry pack: is the card redundant?

The pack can live in StampyWallet as a prepaid package on Growth: sold at your register, it goes into the Wallet and comes off with a scan. It is a separate pass from the loyalty card; deducting an entry adds no stamp, so you decide whether to scan the card too.

Can I tell climbers when new problems go up?

Yes. A message to everyone lands on your climbers' lock screens; on Growth you can schedule it for the day and hour of the reset. A scheduled message goes out once, so schedule the next one each rotation. The gym can send at most one message a day.

Kids don't have phones: how do I count their visits?

On the parent's card. In the scanner, enter the number of entries before scanning: "3" adds three stamps at once. If each child should earn their own reward, give them a card on another phone, or switch to points.

My gym empties out in summer: what can the card do?

It will not fill July, and that is not its job. Lengthen the win-back window for summer, keep rewards valid for months, and in September message the group of climbers away for 90 days. Groups are on Growth.

Should shoe rental count?

With stamps, no: one entry, one stamp. With points, yes, if you enter the full amount. You can also set "$10 = 1 stamp": the amount entered at the desk gives the number of stamps, rounded down.

How much does StampyWallet cost for a climbing gym?

As of October 22, 2026, Essential is $29 a month in the US (€20 excl. VAT in Europe, £19 in the UK): cards, scans and messages to all your climbers. Growth, $49 (€40, £35), adds prepaid packs, scheduled messages, groups, win-backs, gift cards and Google reviews. 30 days free, no contract.
